Drifting barge heads for Frigg
A 10 000-tonne barge from Heerema began drifting towards Frigg on 13 December 1979.
This vessel had been under tow from the British-Norwegian Murchison field further north when it broke free and was driven by hurricane-force winds in the direction of the field.
The position was so serious that both Norwegian and British air forces had to be contacted and were on standby to bomb the barge out of the water. Fortunately, the wind changed direction and the vessel passed about two nautical miles east of Frigg.
