Hydro becomes Heimdal operator
The Heimdal operatorship in the North Sea was transferred to Norsk Hydro on 1 January 1998.
The field was due to be depleted of recoverable petroleum resources in 2000, but Hydro saw opportunities for using its installations to process gas from the company?s own developments in the area and as a hub for gas pipelines. The workforce, about 100 people involve in operating the field, were also transferred from Elf to Hydro.
