Elf becomes Tromsø Patch operator
Forty blocks were put on offer in 1983 in the North Sea, the Halten Bank in the Norwegian Sea and the Tromsø Patch in the Barents Sea.
This was the first time acreage had been awarded over the full north-south length of the NCS. Elf became operator of block 7119/9, making it the first foreign oil company with such a role on the Tromsø Patch. The most interesting block in this round was regarded as 34/7 in the North Sea, where Saga became operator and discovered Snorre.
